VoIP - The new mobile generation and not only for Geeks

by Jennifer Cuellar

It is very rare that we get excited about yet another new VoIP application, but the latest version of Fring really got us going.

What is Fring?

Fring is a mobile VoIP application utilizing your mobile internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, GPRS) to make peer-to-peer VoIP calls, send instant messages and talk with VoIP applications such as Skype, Google Talk , MSN Messenger and any other SIP service provider at no extra cost.

Not only is it extremely easy to install, provided that you own one of their supported mobile phones (only Nokia at this stage), but now Fring allows you to setup any SIP service in the world (well almost - we have not checked them all).

It is almost a VoIP Service Aggregator, allowing the user to keep the settings of his favourite VoIP services all in one place.

It took us no more than 10-15 minutes to download the latest Fring mobile application on our Nokia E61, setup our Skype, Googletalk and MSN accounts and add the SIP details of our favourite SIP service.

And the beauty of it all - It actually works.
