Hot on theheels of the US wireless carrier Sprints announcement last week thatit is effectively taking over US WiMAX along with partner Clearwire, itseems that Google too is elbowing its way forward to take a seat nextto Sprint at the mobile cellular poker championship.
Thistime we actually learn something substantive about Googles mobiletelephony aspirations that have become increasingly apparent since thesearch-engine behemoth began its very public and very aggressivelobbying of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to buy up andopen the mobile wireless spectrum that will shortly come up forauction.
According to a joint Sprint/Googlestatement, WiMAX mobile Internet customers will, if all goes asplanned, be able to search the Internet, and conduct interactivecommunications using Mobile Web 2.0 social networking tools though anew mobile portal supported by the collaboration between the twocompanies.
