Vonage and Verizon go head to head today in a patent lawsuit that could put Vonage out of business. A lower court has already ruled against Vonage, and if the company loses this appeal, you can kiss it good-bye.

I won't go into all the gory details of the lawsuit and appeal --- that's something that only a lawyer could love. But the odds appear stacked against Vonage.

The truth is, though, even if Vonage manages to pull this one off, its days are numbered. It's spending far too much money on marketing, it's losing subscribers, and the competition is about to eat its lunch.
