Free Call Planet, a calling service launched earlier this year by a Beverly Hills entrepreneur, allows people to call more than 40 countries for free. For the other half of the globe, you'll have to pay.

The company has been advertising its services in Hong Kong and mainland China newspapers.

"We have had an overwhelming response — over 50,000 users — and we are increasing capacity quickly," said founder Ann Creamer.
