World Cup IT net gobbling up terabytes

The World Cup soccer tournament taking place in Germany is not only the planet's largest sporting event; during the four weeks of play through July 9, it's also home to what many experts say is the world's biggest communications network built for a single event.

More than 15TB of data, the equivalent of more than 100 million printed books, will travel across a converged voice and data communications network that links stadiums, control centers, management offices, hotels, railroad stations and other numerous outlets involved in the championship. Since the games began on June 9, more than 8TB have already crossed the network.
