Los Angeles-based Fonality, which develops IP telephony systems based on the open source Asterisk VoIP project, said today that it has acquired Trixbox, which the firm said is the world's largeste Asterisk-based community.
Trixbox distributes a version of the Asterisk software, which is used by small and medium sized businesses to replace expensive telephone systems. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Trixbox founder Andrew Gillis will join Fonality as part of the deal. Fonality said that Trixbox will continue to be an open source project licensed under the general public license (GPL).
