UK demand for VoIP set to double

Almost two million UK net users have tried VoIP, and that figure is set to
rise this year, finds report

About 1.8 million UK users have tried out voice over IP in the last 12 months
and an additional 1.9 million will do so in the next 12 months, according to a
new report.

Continental Research’s
Spring
2006 Internet Report
suggests that the doubling of demand is being driven by
positive experiences of the technology.

“Most users are quite satisfied and will use it more in the future,” said
Continental associate director James Myring.

The VoIP vendor of chose is Skype which accounted for 48 percent of users who
had made voice calls over the internet. Aside from Microsoft’s MSN Messenger
with 20 percent, no other supplier made it to double-figure market share.
