VoIP goes mainstream
WHEN they first appeared on the market some four years ago, VoIP (voice over internet protocol) services appealed to geeky types who wanted to make phone calls over their broadband internet connection. Patchy quality and unreliable services confined them to this niche.
But fast forward to this year and VoIP has grown up.
The quality of the calls rival (and in some cases even surpass) that of a traditional phone service, and simple plug-and-play equipment means almost anyone can install a service and make calls in minutes.
